Text of the commemorative stone

OCTOBER 17, 1987,
ON THIS DAY, DEFENDERS OF HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS FROM EVERY CONTINENT GATHERED HERE. THEY PAID HOMAGE TO THE VICTIMS OF HUNGER, IGNORANCE AND VIOLENCE. THEY AFFIRMED THEIR CONVICTION THAT HUMAN MISERY IS NOT INEVITABLE. THEY PLEDGED THEIR SOLIDARITY WITH ALL PEOPLE WHO, THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, STRIVE TO ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY.

Commemoration for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2006 at United Nations

The observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty will be held in Thailand on Monday, 16 October 2006, 10.00-11.00 hours at the United Nations Conference Centre, Meeting room 3, in Bangkok.
